![]() As a singer he had impeccable pitch and timing, and a very wide vocal range. A fan of country music, Rick said that he always tried to emulate the Sun Records sound of artists such as Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. One fateful day, Lew asked Jimmie Haskell to take Ricky Nelson into the studio and make some hit records.Īround that time Ricky was a teenage star in the Ozzie and Harriet TV show. With Imperial, Robyn had done sessions for Fats Domino, Little Richard, and Leiber/Stoller. The label set up Robyn with his own studio as the only engineer. Rick’s label at the time was Imperial Records started by Lew Chudd, who had been recording rockabilly and R&B. Both of their contributions to the sound were huge. Rick recorded his first albums at Master Recorders on 535 Fairfax Avenue in West Hollywood, California from 1957-1961.Ībe “Bunny” Robyn engineered, and arranger/A&R man Jimmie Haskell produced. THE PEOPLE OF THE PROJECT Let’s fill in some background. By studying the recording techniques used back then, we may get some clues about improving our recordings today. ![]() Lew and Blink, thank you again for all the time you both took to "hold my hand" through this whole process. What a sound they got 50 years ago. It won't play back on a BlueRay player, though, OK? I burned mine on Taiyo Yudens, and they played back on the Toshiba deck they had there with no problems. And, as Blink recommends, use Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims. One word of caution: DON'T USE A REWRITEABLE DVD. Once in Studio, import the exported file from Liquid, put it on a timeline, insert a Standard Def DVD, and then BURN IT!!!!Īs Blink says, it works, and it's pretty funny walking into a Circuit City with the DVD in a Standard Def jewelcase, asking to play it on their HD-DVD player to see how it works, having them smugly tell you it'll never work, and then watching their expression when it DOES! THEN (and this is most important), shut down Liquid BEFORE opening up Studio. You can Export it using the FUSE option, Standard, and save it to a file where you're going to import later to Studio, OR, you can Export it as an MPEG2 file, and once in there, choose either HD 720p or HD 1080i, and save to that same file. And there's two ways to do it without making ANY modifications to the preset settings. So burning an HD-DVD on to a standard def DVD blank from Liquid turns out to be a piece of cake. Then, once it's exported it, burn it on to the CD. In the meantime, Lew brought up since they were going to use a video projector, I could've just exported it as a Windows Media File and burned it on to a CD!!!! Just export it as a Windows Media file, go down to HD profiles, choose any of the HDV formats that's best for your project. From there, I can take the video I edit in Liquid and export it to Studio, and Studio could BURN the HD video to a standard def DVD blank (provided it's no longer than 20 minutes). ![]() Lew and Blink also pointed out I should get the Studio Ultimate 11.1 software and install that into my computer. That's where Lew pointed out I contact Blink, who's the most experienced on this forum regarding HD videos. I can edit HD on Liquid Pro 7.2, but how to output it. Of course, the challenge was how to produce an HD video that would be played back on HD-DVD. SO, they needed a video produced, and I recommended we use HD footage (which was later pointed out to me by Lew I could download straight off Microsoft's site) in place of their pictures. To say their surface really showed off the photos in their presentation compared to the other two surfaces is an understatement. They were using it to show the difference between the following surfaces to project a video on to: a matte white, an enhanced gray, and their surface. I met with a client 2 weeks ago to put together a video from their Powerpoint Presentation. I just completed editing my first HD project and the client is happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you to both of you guys.
